ASTM A453 660 Class A Bolts Specification
ASTM A453 Grade 660 Class A Bolts, Screws, Nuts and Studs contain 24% Nickel and 13.5% Chromium with addition of 1.80 up to 2.10 percentage of Titanium to add toughness for use at high temperatures. The Co-efficient of expansion of A453 gr 660A bolts is comparable to austenite stainless steels. A453 660 Cl A is the most common grade used in conjunction with Grades B,C & D. A453 Grade 660 Class A Boltings are heated up to 900 degrees Celsius with a holding time of 2 hours followed by liquid quenching and age hardened once to achieve the desired tensile stress & yield strength. Unlike Gr 660 Class d Bolts, Class A Bolts require stress-rupture test at 650 degrees Celsius with a minimum stress of 385 Mpa for at least 100 hours. The maximum permissible hardness for 660 A Bolting is 37 HRC.
Finishing Process for ASTM A453 Gr 660A Stud Bolts, Bolts, Screws Threads for studs, screws and bolts made of A453 Gr 660A can be formed by machining or rolling from Pitch Diameter. Keeping the heat treatment condition of A453 Grade 660A, Threads may be formed after precipitation hardening or after solution annealing but prior to precipitation age hardening.
The following Type designations of A453 660A Studs & Bolts are as follows:- Type M1threads formed by machining after Precipitation Hardening.
- Type M2threads formed by machining after solution annealing but prior to precipitation hardening.
- Type R1threads formed by rolling after precipitation hardening.
- Type R2threads formed by rolling after solution annealing but prior to precipitation hardening.
